Skôr než sa stal profesionálnym geografom, bol neprofesionálnym hudobníkom. Je spoluzakladateľom hudobnej skupiny Prešporok pôsobiacej v žánri folk. S hitom Tancujúca kráľovná vyhral viaceré hudobné súťaže. Ako autor a spoluautor stál pri zrode viacerých zaujímavých kníh, napríklad o rekordoch Zeme, Európy, Slovenska či Bratislavy. Narodil si sa v Ružomberku, ale väčšinu života si prežil v Bratislave. Zažil si detstvo aj na Liptove?

Pôvodom som Lipták, moji obaja rodičia i sestra sa narodili v Liptovských Sliačoch. Mal som tu úžasných starých rodičov, širokú rodinu, veľa ujčekov, strýkov, bratrancov, sesterníc, kamarátov, a takmer všetci vedeli krásne spievať. Liptovské Sliače sú veľmi muzikálna obec. Spievalo sa, keď sa chodilo na lúky alebo aj pri inej práci. Ako dieťa som to možno nevedel oceniť tak ako dnes. A moja mama si pri varení, aj keď sme už bývali v Bratislave, rada zaspievala. Spievalo sa v krčme aj pri rodinných stretnutiach. Pamätám si, že mnohé „veselie“ sa začínalo vo dvore u mojich starých rodičov, ktorý sa nazýval U Matulov. Tu začínali svoje obchôdzky po dedine májovníci či fašiangová cháska, ktorej v Sliači hovoria bursovníci. Starí rodičia, aj keď to boli jednoduchí ľudia, mali veľké pochopenie pre ľudové umenie. Basička, ktorú vystružlikal môj starý otec, je umiestnená v Hudobnom múzeu SNM v Dolnej Krupej, ich syn Vojto Littva sa vypracoval na úspešného choreografa súboru Liptov a maminou sesternicou je známa speváčka ľudových piesní Hanka Hulejová. Nečudo, že môj otec sa tak rád priženil do ich rodiny. Spolu s mamou až do skonu tvorili nerozlučnú dvojicu. Často spomínali na svoju mladosť, na veselosť a družnosť, ktorá vtedy panovala, a ktorú som ja, ako malý, ešte stihol trochu zažiť. Minule mi to pripomenulo video na YouTube, záznam svadby z Liptovských Sliačov z roku 1965. Dedina bola plná detí, mládeže i starých ľudí, všetci sa chceli zúčastniť veselia. Celkovo sa vtedy žilo viac vonku na priedomí, na ulici, dnes už to tak nie je.

Tvoj otec a menovec bol známy slovenský folklorista. Nasmeroval ťa aj on k folklóru? 

Otcov vzťah k ľudovej kultúre a špeciálne k folklóru pramenil z jeho celoživotných skúseností. Od útlej mladosti  bol obklopený tým, čo neskôr študoval.. Ako chlapec sa zaúčal robote na salaši, robil s drevorubačmi, vtedajšia dedina vyzerala ako dnešný skanzen a všetky zvyky, ktoré môžeme obdivovať v spracovaní ľudových súborov či vidieť v starších filmoch, boli súčasťou bežného života. Takže jeho voľba štúdia bola jasná. No ja som už prežil inú mladosť. Keď otec ako vyštudovaný folklorista dostal prácu v Slovenskej akadémii vied v Bratislave, celá rodina sme sa presťahovali na bratislavské sídlisko Štrkovec. Mne sa tak stalo mesto a jeho „folklór“ tým, čo som „nasával“. V dome na Zálužickej ulici, kde som vyrastal, žilo množstvo rodín z celého Československa, ba dokonca kamarátovi rodičia boli Bulhari, a tak sa tu vytvárala svojská subkultúra spojená s „bandami“, súperením, športom, filmami a úplne inou hudbou. No folklór z môjho života neodišiel. U nás doma fungoval minimálne cez televíznu obrazovku, sledovali sme takmer všetky folklórne relácie, napríklad záznamy z Východnej, Detvy či filmy s takouto tematikou. Ale vrátim sa k tvojej otázke. Otec ma k folklóru nesilil, asi mal pocit, že takéto štúdium je otázkou srdca, a že nejakým násilným smerovaním by dosiahol opak.

Hudbou si bol od mala obklopený. Kam siahajú tvoje hudobné začiatky?

Na základnej škole som sa spoznal s Danom Mikletičom, neskôr známym textárom a producentom, a pomerne rýchlo sme zistil, že máme spoločný názor na hudbu i humor. Založili sme také recesívne duo Séparé. Dano mal kazetový magnetofón Blaupunkt, na ktorý sme nahrávali naše prvé hudobné pokusy. V pivnici sme si zariadili „štúdio“. Bubny sme mali so škatúľ z televízora, staré rádio slúžilo ako zosilňovač. Vychádzali z toho bizarné zvuky. Avšak neskorší Danov hit Po schodoch, ktorý zhudobnil Richard Müller, mal prvopočiatok práve tu. Neskôr na gymnáziu sme v našej hudobnej činnosti pokračovali. Navštevovali sme humanitný smer, takže sa nám rozšíril kultúrny obzor, napríklad o estetiku, dejiny umenia, ale aj vyšší počet hodín literatúry. Toto všetko ma ovplyvnilo. V tomto období som sa začal zoznamovať s tvorbou Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, ale i Bobom Dylanom či Joni Mitchell. Boli sme takí mladí intelektuáli a naše debaty boli zväčša o hudbe, filmoch a literatúre. Postupne som pochopil, že i cez pesničky sa dajú vyjadriť silné myšlienky, posolstvá či pocity, no hudbu treba posunúť trochu ďalej ako bolo naše pivničné „undergroundové“ muzicírovanie. S kamarátom z domu Kamilom Vilinovičom sme si začali skúšať na gitarách na lavičke pred domom. On už vtedy vedel hrať pesničky od Katapultu, Status Quo alebo od Olympicu. Učil ma Slzy tvý mámy šedivý a iné hity. Moja gitarová technika nebola bohvieaká. Doteraz ľutujem, že som v tom čase nechodil do nejakej ľudovej školy umenia. Získal som totiž niektoré zlozvyky, ktoré sa mi však neskôr celkom osvedčili. Napríklad som brnkal na gitare aj malíčkom, pretože som nevedel, že klasickí gitaristi ním nehrajú.

Niekde do tohto obdobia sa datuje aj zrod skupiny Prešporok... 

S Kamilom sme si najprv hovorili Duo Androméda a zaregistrovali sme sa v obvodnom kultúrnom a spoločenskom stredisku . Neskôr sa k nám pridal aj Dano Mikletič. A práve on vymyslel aj náš názov. Pretože sme sa najprv považovali aj za rockovú kapelu, zrodil sa názov Prešporock. Neskôr, keď sme zistili, že dve akustické gitary, ústna harmonika, vokály a perkusie sú skôr doménou folkerov, písali sme názov v tvare Prešporok. Naše prvé vystúpenie sa udialo na súťaži záujmovo-umeleckej činnosti. O niekoľko dní som si vo Večerníku prečítal, že tam zažiaril Prešporok s textami Klimenta Ondrejku. Článok napísal Ľuboš Zeman. Pomyslel som si: sláva je už tu. Samozrejme, museli sme znieť veľmi šialene.

V prvej polovici osemdesiatych rokov nastalo pre Prešporok vari najslávnejšie obdobie...

Bolo to asi naše najúspešnejšie obdobie, hrali sme s Robom Grigorovom, ktorý vedel dobre intonovať, hrať na gitaru a flautu. Dokázali sme vypredať Dom kultúry na Vajnorskej, čo je pomerne veľká sála. Zahrali sme na viacerých zaujímavých podujatiach, Martinské folkfórum, Kremnické gagy, Zaprášené cesty v Banskej Bystrici a mnoho ďalších. Neskôr sa obsadenie niekoľkokrát zmenilo a skupina znela naozaj folkovo aj vďaka tomu, že sme mali violončelo a priečnu flautu. Hrali sme pomerne náročné skladby, ktoré bolo treba veľa cvičiť. Dokonca sme jeden čas smerovali k tomu plánovanému folkrocku. Po nežnej revolúcii kapela na určitý čas skončila. K hudbe som sa vrátil až v roku 2009. Zorganizovali sme veľkolepý koncert v Kultúrnom dome v Bratislave-Dúbravke. Na koncert sa mi podarilo dať dokopy takmer všetkých ľudí, ktorí mali niekedy do činenia s Prešporkom. Odvtedy sme začali opäť hrať a z tohto obdobia vzišlo pomerne úspešné cédečko Tancujúca kráľovná.

Akej muzike sa venuješ v súčasnosti?

Za posledných desať rokov som s Prešporkom urobil niekoľko experimentov. Pokúsil som sa o akúsi fúziu folku a folklóru, ktorej výsledkom sú dve CD – Čieže to ovečka a Piesne spod Salatína. K tomu prvému som dostal akýsi impulz z „iného sveta“. Po otcovej smrti, keď sme hrali v Liptovských Sliačoch na festivale Liptovské dni matky, sa mi prisnil veľmi živý sen, v ktorom ma otec nabádal, aby som urobil CD z pesničiek z môjho repertoáru, a to ľudové balady a podobné pesničky. Tento „jeho hlas“ som nemohol neuposlúchnuť. Navyše som zaradil do repertoáru jeho autorskú pesničku Hory doly, ktorú mnohí na Liptove považujú za ľudovú. Dnes vidím, že som dostal od otca veľa informácií folklórneho charakteru, a teraz ako starší človek to už zúročujem. Otcovi vďačím aj za to, že som sa okľukou dostal späť k folklóru. Aj CD Piesne spod Salatína má zaujímavú históriu. Otec kedysi spolupracoval so svojím švagrom Vojtom Littvom a folklórnym súborom Liptov, ktorý dnes vedie môj bratranec Igor Littva. Keďže jemu sa moja tvorba zapáčila, spojili sme Prešporok a hudobnú zložku Liptova a vznikol, myslím, celkom zaujímavý výsledok. Dokonca sme spolu s Liptovom už niekoľkokrát koncertovali vo Vlkolínci, Ružomberku, v Bratislave. No a čo sa týka kapely? Dospel som do štádia, že som sa vrátil ku koreňom, k „lavičkovému“ folku, s ktorým som začínal. Neskúšame už síce na lavičkách, ale cvičíme s priateľmi Ferom Petriskom a Vladom Mrázkom, kde sa dá, v kuchyni ale i v dlhodielskych lesoch či Karloveskej zátoke. Momentálne pracujeme na „rýdzo“ folkových pesničkách. Vyťahujem niektoré pesničky zo starých čias, na ktoré sa doteraz nedostalo, a občas sa mi podarí pridať nejakú novinku. Uzatvorili sme akési hudobno-diskusné priateľstvo so skupinou Jednofázové kvasenie a dobré vzťahy máme i s ďalšími legendami slovenského folku, Zuzkou Homolovou, Soňou Horňákovou či Petrom Jnaků, ale aj so skupinou Rolničky. Spomínam ich najmä preto, že ich frontman Dušan Franců zložil nádhernú pesničku o mojom otcovi.

Prečo si sa rozhodol študovať geografiu? Neuvažoval si o hudobnom odbore?

V mladosti som bol do veľkej miery spätý s umením, ale fascinovala ma i príroda. Učarovali mi vesmír či pravek, najmä v podaní Karla Zemana v legendárnej Ceste do praveku a obrazoch Zdeňka Buriana. Veľmi rád som čítal verneovky či cestopisné knihy, napríklad Thora Heyerdahla. Podvedome som veľmi túžil po cestovaní, v reálnom socializme však na to neboli vhodné podmienky. Geografia bola preto také mentálne cestovanie prstom po mape. Pôvodne som chcel ísť študovať ochranu prírody. Tento odbor sa ale otváral len každý druhý rok, a tak som začal študovať najbližší odbor – geografiu. Aj keď priznávam, že v tých časoch mi bola bližšia hudba. Vtedy som ani neuvažoval, že by som si mohol vybrať aj pedagogický smer, napríklad zemepis a hudobnú výchovu. Až v zrelom veku som zistil, že by som bol celkom dobrý učiteľ a že učenie by ma bavilo. Avšak to, že som vyštudoval odbor fyzická geografia – kartografia vôbec neľutujem. Prírodu milujem a geografia mi pootvorila okno aj k jej poznaniu. A čo je zaujímavé, snáď sa mi podarilo dostať do pesničiek aj trochu tej geografie.

K učeniu si sa napokon svojím spôsobom dostal prostredníctvom výchovno-geografických koncertov...

V mojom živote sa občas vyskytli okamihy, ktoré som nemohol ovplyvniť, ale posunuli ma niekam inam. Napríklad po skrachovaní Slovenskej kartografie, kde som dlhšie pracoval, som sa musel zorientovať a začal som robiť predajcu máp a mapových výrobkov po školách. Postupne som sa zoznamoval s týmto pre mňa novým svetom, vytváral si nové vzťahy a priateľstvá. Všimol som si, že v školách sa stále konávajú výchovné koncerty, ktoré som si pamätal z detstva. Spolu s gitaristom Mirom Šulcom sme dali dokopy pesničky a ja som napísal scenár programu S pesničkami po Slovensku. Pesničky som dopĺňal sprievodným slovom o geografii a tiež o rôznych rekordoch a zaujímavostiach o Slovensku. Zároveň som deti aj trochu skúšal. Zistil som, že deti sú schopné pri výklade počúvať a vnímať moje pesničky. Spätná reakcia bola dobrá, program bol úspešný, páčil sa deťom i učiteľom, či skôr učiteľkám :-).

 A tak sa zrodil nápad  na knihy o rekordoch?

Snáď najkrajšou súčasťou štúdia geografie boli exkurzie po Slovensku. Fascinovalo ma, keď sme sa niekde pri ceste zastavili a pedagóg nám začal všetko vysvetľovať a popísal nám zaujímavosti od praveku po súčasnosť. Už vtedy som si vravel, aká by to bola krásna kniha s takýmito textami a obrázkami. Neskôr ako redaktor som vymyslel knižku Rekordy Zeme. V nej sa mi podarilo všetko spojiť – mapy, obrázky a text. Kniha zaznamenala značný úspech, vyšla vo viacerých jazykoch. Nadviazal som na ňu publikáciou Rekordy Slovenska a do nej som vniesol vedomosti, ktoré som získal počas štúdia. Nasledovali Rekordy Európy a Rekordy Bratislavy, čím som sériu knižných rekordov zavŕšil.

Sú v niečom príbuzné tvorba piesní a písanie kníh?

Pointa tvorby knižiek a pesničiek je v niečom podobná. Preto aj robím folk, lebo je to hudobný štýl, ktorý ma ničím neobmedzuje. Začínam s čistým papierom alebo hlavou, v niektorých pesničkách zabŕdnem do rockendrollu, blues, občas i do jazzu či popu. S písaní rekordov som tiež na začiatku mal čistý papier, začal som s geografiou. Po úspechu kníh o rekordoch mi napadlo, že aj otec študoval peknú vedu, a tak vznikol Malý lexikón ľudovej kultúry. Tu som sa zasa zoznamoval s problematikou hmotnej i nehmotnej ľudovej kultúry či vývoja slovenského jazyka. A spomeniem ešte jednu vcelku úspešnú knižku Tajomstvo kalendárov, ktorá je o chronológii, kalendároch jednotlivých civilizácií i ročnom zvykosloví. Samotné písanie ma baví, mám rád, keď je na začiatku nejaký nápad a pocit, že som vymyslel niečo jedinečné. Pri pesničkách je to jednoznačné a nezameniteľné, nikto to nemôže urobiť za mňa. My pesničkári máme tú výhodu, že nie sme závislí od textárov ako napríklad popoví speváci. Čo si sami napíšeme, to si aj zahráme.

V posledných rokoch veľa času tráviš aj s manželkou v Pezinku. Čím ti učarovalo toto mesto?

Mám veľmi peknú rodinku, manželku Gabrielu, synov Michala, Maroša a dcéru Martinu. Verím, že deti nejaké tie gény po mne zdedili. Minimálne ich baví cestovanie a s dnešnými možnosťami už precestovali kus sveta. S manželkou tak drobne živnostníčime a snažíme sa spríjemniť si život bývaním mimo zhonu veľkomesta. Pezinok je príjemné miesto pre život a úžasné mesto. Je to také akurátne mesto, ani veľké ani malé. Má peknú architektúru námestia, osviežujúci mestský park a je pomerne blízko k prírode, lesom Malých Karpát, vode. Je tu i dostatok kultúry, teda všetko, čo človek potrebuje. A navyše je aj blízko Bratislavy. Pezinčanom som cez víkendy a prázdniny. Kučišdorfská dolina to je naše more, v priehrade plávajú dokonca užovky, čo je dôkaz, že voda je čistá, takže sa tam chodievame radi kúpať. Okolie Pezinka mám celé prechodené, či už sú to cestičky na Babu, lesnícky, banícky, vinohradnícky chodník či Rozálka. Tu by som zacitoval refrén mojej pesničky: Ja rád sa túlam, ja tak rád sa túlam, les je môj chrám, tam keď som sám, ja svoju dušu spoznávam.
